Does Homeopathy Work?

This week Reactions pits homeopathy and alternative medicine against science and chemistry to answer the question–does it work?

Homeopathy is a category of “alternative medicine” that emerged some 200 years ago. But does it work? Well, we’ve done our research. While a growing number of people are turning to such remedies to treat a range of health conditions, the majority of data in peer-reviewed scientific literature does not support its effectiveness.

0:23: This example more accurately describes allergen immunotherapy, rather than homeopathy.
3:46: Not all homeopaths and homeopathic manufacturers promote homeopathic products as alternatives to conventional medicines to treat or avoid life threatening acute health conditions.
3:57: In the U.S., homeopathic medicine manufacturers are subject to FDA oversight with regards to their production facilities. However, unlike for conventional medications, homeopathic products are not reviewed by FDA for efficacy or safety.

Is Homeopathy Really As Implausible As It Sounds?

Does it work? No, according to top scientists.

“The principles of homeopathy contradict known chemical, physical and biological laws and persuasive scientific trials proving its effectiveness are not available”

    Russian Academy of Sciences, Russia

“Homeopathy should not be used to treat health conditions that are chronic, serious, or could become serious. People who choose homeopathy may put their health at risk if they reject or delay treatments for which there is good evidence for safety and effectiveness.”

National Health and Medical Research Council, Australia

“These products are not supported by scientific evidence.”

    Health Canada, Canada

“Homeopathic remedies don’t meet the criteria of evidence based medicine.”

    Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Hungary

“The incorporation of anthroposophical and homeopathic products in the Swedish directive on medicinal products would run counter to several of the fundamental principles regarding medicinal products and evidence-based medicine.”

    Swedish Academy of Sciences, Sweden

“We recommend parents and caregivers not give homeopathic teething tablets and gels to children and seek advice from their health care professional for safe alternatives.”

    Food and Drug Administration, USA

“There is little evidence to support homeopathy as an effective treatment for any specific condition”

National Centre for Complementary and Integrative Health, USA

“There is no good-quality evidence that homeopathy is effective as a treatment for any health condition”

    National Health Service, UK

“Homeopathic remedies perform no better than placebos, and that the principles on which homeopathy is based are “scientifically implausible””

House of Commons Science and Technology Committee, UK

The psyche that goes, if homeopathy doesn’t work why companies still making it? Why people still using it and why don’t govt just ban it?

    Answer to these goes…
Govt can’t provide real medicine at affordable price to everyone so they let this illusion stay, that you are still getting medicine (Homeopathy)

These homeopathy companies make quick money cos most of you can’t afford the real thing. Now that they have enough money they can lobby some of the money in the Congress (legislature) so govt don’t ban it.
They even bribe doctors to prescribe these medicines and it’s legal in many countries.

And why people use it cos we are sheep, we follow where the heard go.

In India, Homeopathy is growing at a faster rate. Patients are experiencing some better change in their health condition that’s why they are taking the homeopathic remedies. If it is just a placebo effect then why so many people will take risk.

  18. Sarat Chandra Behera on October 7, 2021 at 9:38 am

Homeopathy works much better than Allopathy in a number of cases. Varicose veins, Sciatica, flatulence, joint pain and many other health problems get better only with homeopathy. We can’t call allopathic pain killers as medicine for Sciatica They would suggest, in most of the cases, surgery. But it is cured very easily with homeopathy medicines.

  19. Jeen stud on October 7, 2021 at 9:38 am

you are a fool….homeopathy is a pure science…if u think homeopathy is a placebo?u prove this….take advice from homeopathic doctor…and take medicine if u have willpower.then u will know its a placebo or medicinal effect….

  20. martin Nguyen on October 7, 2021 at 9:39 am

Have you ever used Homeopathic medicine before? By an experienced practitioner? Followed the full holistic balancing lifestyle, emotional & spiritual changes that was recommend? If NO how can you make judge a modality that you have no personal experience.

Natural medicine works by the principle of wisdom, holism, individualism, non harm & devotion to the full healing journey.

Interesting that you made a fancy video just to stop people from using medicine you admit is harmless. How about some explaining the side effects of conventual medicine, like chemo? I’ve helped babies get over their colds very quickly with homeopathic medicine; they could not have been from "placebo" effects since babies don’t even know what medicine is. I don’t care what the FDA says.

  28. Sam Rosenbalm on October 7, 2021 at 9:51 am

If water has memory we are all in trouble. We drink and/or bathe in what people flush. Those who live in major cities drink water that is less diluted with human waste than homeopathic medicine is with it’s active ingredient. Our public water remembers the shit of millions. When you take a sip, the water says, "I’ve been here before." Yet people still get dysentery.

    Lessen the background music, stupids

  40. Roger Bard on October 7, 2021 at 10:02 am

Dr Hahnemann didnt just make up "like cures like" out of some intellectual hypothesis. He did the homeopathic provings with his colleagues and carefully recorded the symptoms that resulted. Then he used the same remedies to treat his patients. He had lots of experience to confirm "like cures like." All conventional drugs have "side effects" identical to the symptoms that they are used to treat (without curing). If they were used homeopathically, i.e. matching all symptoms – mental, emotional and physical, they would be curative. In Hahnemanns time he did know Avagadro’s principle that there was a limit to how much you could dilutes something before it was all gone. So he concluded that there was some as yet unknown energy that was in homeopathic remedies. He knew it was not a physico-chemical effect. Conventional doctors dont know the chemical cause of most of the symptoms that their drugs cause either. They can only identify a few of the chemical interactions for most drugs. Not even aspirin is well understood! Homeopathic dilution works with water, alcohol and lactose. So "water memory" is not a fundamental principle of homeopathy. Some homeopaths adhere to that belief. There seems to be some experimental evidence for an EMF signature of homeopathic remedies in water also. Homeopathy doesnt violate any principles of conventional science, if the remedies use some form of energy that has not been identified yet. Homeopathic provings are a repeatable scientific experiment that anyone can do to experience it for themselves. That is the fundamental basis of homeopathy. The NHMRC study was gamed. The original version by the scientist who created their rules for studies, said there was convincing evidence for homeopathy. They refused to publish that study. There is so much evidence for the danger of conventional medicine, give homeopathy a try. There is little to NO evidence for its danger. There are lots of studies and 200 years of well documented cured cases that the So-called Skeptics refuse to consider. If your health is good do a homeopathic proving.

U r not a doctor that’s for sure… to all the people who doesn’t get the homeopathy should at least learn about it before criticizing it .. if you are an allopath you better know that allopathy just suppresses the disease while homeopathy can cure disease that is why homeopathic treatments in chronic diseases are more effective than allopathic treatment.. i have seen diabetes mellitus cured by homeopathy and no medication needed after cured.. in allopathic medicine u have to take medications lifetime..
