The Truth about Using Essential Oils on Your Pets

Is it safe to use essential oils on your pets? #doterra #doterraessentialoils #essentialoilsandpets

This is one topic in the essential oil world that is a bit taboo. There are many who argue that essential oils are harmful and toxic to animals. The truth is essential oils have many benefits for your pets! They can help with calming emotions, soothing muscles, easing digestion, and overall wellness of your four-legged family members.

Before using any product with or around your pet, it is important to note that not all essential oils are created equal. Many essential oils on the market may boast “100 percent pure” on the label, but they could contain substances that are actually quite toxic to animals and should be avoided. This is also true with many candles, wax melts, air fresheners, cleaning solutions and fabric refreshers. To ensure the highest quality products, be sure your essential oils are third party tested and CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®. Let’s demystify some of the myths, and learn the truth about essential oils and pets.

CAUTION, Error on the side of safety… Some Essential oils, even quality, are reputed to cause toxicity in pets, especially CATS! Cats process toxin through their liver differently and are not able to process certain chemical compounds. "Generally speaking, the smaller the pet is, the more chance there is of any essential oil reaching toxic levels. Animals with preexisting conditions that are irritated or triggered by Tea Tree Oil will obviously react badly to its use in any dose." ~quoted from All Natural Pet Care website… there are other resources including a Vet who uses EO’s in her practice, highly recommend looking her up to learn more.
